Case Study: Trafi

The Challenge

What possibilities blockchain could offer and blockchain’s feasibility

The Findings

Blockchain is a new technology; a decentralized ledger that can increase security and transparency and simplify business processes. It is at a low maturity level and has no governmental, operational use cases. The legislation on blockchain is still non-existent and it does not add value over a traditional database, if trust and robustness are not an issue.

The Solution

Collaborate tightly with stakeholders to strengthen the basis for a decentralized ledger. Redefine processes to minimize any future redundancies. Secure digital identification.

Study of blockchain maturity and use cases

The goal of the project was to study if and how blockchain could be a viable, smart solution for Trafi. The project team conducted interviews, studied literature and did extensive international benchmarking to map out the current state of blockchain. Additionally, they studied Trafi and conducted internal interviews to discover Trafi’s current possibilities of adopting blockchain.

The final outcome included a map of actions to be taken to prepare for blockchain adoption, and cases and pilots to follow to estimate blockchain’s development in the next couple of years. The team thoroughly covered pros and cons of blockchain, its requirements and uses, as well as Trafi’s possibilities to utilize and benefit from blockchain if it will develop to a favorable direction in the next few years. Some governments are already piloting and testing blockchain use, and they are relevant sources to follow blockchain’s development for governmental use.
